CAREER CLOSET CLOSING FOSTER CITY BRANCH

Career Closet to Relocate Closer to Public Transportation on the Peninsula.

The mission of Career Closet is to provide interview and appropriate business wear, free of charge, to disadvantaged women in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.

Since 2004, Commerce Park in Foster City has been the home of Career Closet. Although organizations that refer clients to Career Closet indicated through surveys that the service is needed, important to their clients, and contributes to the success of disadvantaged women, referrals declined from 200 in 2010, to 154 in 2011 and 134 in 2012.

Career Closet evaluated this consistent decline and opted to close the Foster City branch as of June 28, 2013. The organization believes that part of the issue is that many clients rely on public transportation, which was the impetus to move the San Jose facility to 43 E. Gish Rd., at N. 1st St in 2006. Career Closet hopes to relocate by the first of the year in a viable space located directly on or nearby major public transportation routes on the Peninsula.
