2010 has been a busy and productive year for us here at Career Closet, as we continued to provide the same life-changing services to our clients that have become our hallmark.

Here's a short list of what we've been up to over the past 12 months or so.

Volunteer Nights

  • Various organizations come to volunteer at Career Closet to dress clients, sort donations and participate in other activities we need assistance in. Groups that have joined us include the SF 49er’s wives, Notre Dame High School, Intuit and others.

Events

  • 2nd Annual Portera Common Community Celebration at the Pruneyard in Campbell, CA.
    • We accepted donations side by side with 2nd Harvest Food Bank, Innvision, Sacred Heart and Community Health Partnership.

  • Commission on the Status on Women of San Mateo County.
    • They accepted clothing to benefit both Career Closet and CORA.

  • Oktoberfest at Crowne Plaza in Foster City/San Mateo.
    • We accepted donations and sold Twice the Style jewelry and handbags.

  • Pumpkins in the Park at Guadalupe River Park/Discovery Meadow.
    • Some of our volunteers in San Jose constructed a scarecrow - Connie Career.

  • Silicon Valley Rollergirls in San Jose.
    • We accepted donations and they held a raffle to benefit Career Closet.

Style Cupboard Sales

  • Each sale we held in 2010 we had at least one item on special. For example; 50% off all blazers, jackets and suits, $2.00 all jewelry.

  • Twice the Style in Foster City and Twice the Style Too! in San Jose.

  • Twice the Style boutique in Foster City continues to support Career Closet’s operating expenses.

  • Twice the Style Too! boutique in San Jose opened June 28th and has continued to grow as word of mouth spreads of our new boutique.

T-shirts and business cards

  • We have pink t-shirts with our brown logo on them for sale in each Career Closet for $15 (tax included).

  • We purchased blank business cards so all volunteers can have something to give to those we reach out to in the community.
